Scanway Catering is currently seeking a professional, experienced Pastry Chef to work in our downtown commercial catering kitchen. The Pasty Chef will work in the catering kitchen to support day-to-day catering operations and will have an understanding of offsite catering.
The Pastry Chef will have a supervisory role as part of the food preparation team, providing offsite events with a wide variety of food to meet the needs of our array of clients. This position requires a motivated, experienced pastry cook who has been in the industry for at least one year, who enjoys a fast-paced environment and has a proven track record.
REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS:
-Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
-Certificate in culinary arts, pasty making, baking or relevant field
-Minimum of 3-5 years work experience in a related field, previous experience as Pastry Cook or Chef
-Great attention to detail and creativity
-Strong knowledge of all aspects of the kitchen, especially as it applies to offsite catering and settings.
-Excellent organizational abilities and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
-Strong attention to detail.
-Excellent interpersonal skills: approachable with good listening skills.
-Skilled and proactive in problem resolution.
-Demonstrates creativity, and a passion for food
-Experience leading a team (scheduling, ordering, assigning tasks, etc)
-Creatively minded with a strong understanding of current pastry trends
-Experience with hiring pastry cooks and building pastry team is a plus
ROLE:
-Works under the direction of the executive chef on a daily basis for execution of all banquet functions as well as offsite catering contracts.
-Executes food preparation in accordance with Scanway and food standards of quality, quality control, taste and presentation
-Promotes teamwork within the kitchen.
-Maintains a high level of professionalism and quality service in the kitchen.
-Ensures proper sanitation techniques and Occupational Health & Safety Standards are maintained at all times.
-Supports teamwork to ensure strong and positive communication between Scanway and clients.
-Ensures Scanway food quality, presentation and consistency are maintained at all times.
-Maintains efficient use of produce, portion controls, and stock turnover to ensure food costs are kept in line with established budgets.
-Maintains departmental standards and company standards are consistently adhered to.
-Create new and exciting menus to engage the interest of customers
