About Us
The Correctional Services Division of Nova Scotia’s Department of Justice contributes to the maintenance of a safe and secure society through the provision of community and custody-based corrections. Community Corrections includes adult diversion measures, court information, offender supervision and reintegration programs and planning. Custody-based corrections includes facility operations and reintegration programs and planning.
About Our Opportunity
Under the general supervision of the Food Service Manager, as Cook’s Helper, you are a certified food handler who prepares food products required for the main production area and assists in the preparation and distribution of meals to service areas.
Primary Accountabilities
- assembling and delivering meal trays to the offender units;
- preparing special diet foods;
- maintaining cleanliness of the food production area, utensils and equipment and the staff dining area; and
- assisting to ensure proper sanitation standards are met.
Qualifications and Experience
You have successfully completed a food handler course. One year of direct experience in the food service industry is also required.
As the successful candidate you will demonstrate your knowledge and ability in preparing menus and understand the processes as outlined pertaining to the handling of ingredient controls. You communicate effectively with co-workers and offenders while demonstrating good decision-making skills.
The following would be viewed as assets: Experience in an institutional setting; Certification in standard First Aid/CPR.
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
