About ARU:

We are ranked in the world’s top 350 institutions in the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and we are a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. Our research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world-leading. In 2021, we were awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for our world-leading music therapy work.

About the role:

The Catering Service in Cambridge currently operates a main restaurant, coffee shop and provides hospitality for meetings and events. Your role as Chef would involve the preparation, cooking and presentation of high-quality food for ARU’s students, staff and external clients. You’d be supporting the Head Chef with the smooth running of our kitchens. This is an exciting time to join our team, with a full refurbishment of the Eatery restaurant & kitchen planned to start in May and completing by mid August 2023. This will completely change the look and feel of the current space and allow the team to be more creative and flexible with the menu choices.

You will be a passionate foodie with creative flair, who keeps up-to-date with food trends. You’ll have experience of working in a medium/large professional kitchen and possess a wide range of cookery skills. You’ll be comfortable working as part of a team but will also be happy to work independently and unsupervised.

Working hours will be mostly Monday-Friday during the day, however with advance notice there will be occasional evening and weekend work to cater for events and residential summer schools. We offer lieu time in return for additional hours worked. Our chef team don’t work split shifts, and we offer bank holidays off in addition to a generous holiday entitlement.

If you hold a recognised qualification in Professional Cookery and a certificate in Food Safety and are keen to join a highly motivated and professional Chef team with a commitment to high standards, then we’d love to hear from you.

Informal enquiries can be made to Whitney Challender, Head Chef at whitney.challender1@aru.ac.uk.
