Job Description
- Assisting with the day to day operation of the Unit within the terms of the contract
- Assisting in planning, preparation, cooking and presentation of food to ensure that the company’s reputation for food quality and service is maintained
- Assisting in the preparation and display of up to date and accurate weekly menus
- Assisting with paperwork completion where appropriate and applicable
- Providing support to the Cook Supervisor with clerical activities of unit controls, records timesheets and timebooks, using either computer or paperwork systems in accordance with policy and procedures
- To maintain Taylor Shaw standards on personal and kitchen hygiene, Food Safety and Health & Safety, and to operate to the standards required by statutory Regulations
- To display all statutory notices appropriately
- To take all necessary action, statutory or otherwise, in the event of accident, injury, burglary, theft, damage and loss of property
- To support the induction and assist in training of Unit staff
- To undergo appropriate on and off the job training and to put this training into practice within the Unit
- To ensure that portion control is monitored to the required standard
- To maintain the standard of cleanliness and hygiene of premises and equipment including the prompt cleaning of all spillages
- To assist with the set out, clear away and storage of dining furniture where applicable including assisting with the periodic clean of dining furniture
- To undertake any other duties by the Cook Supervisor that may be required for the effective running of the Unit
- To comply with reasonable requests made by the Unit Manager or the company, including covering staff at any other unit within the contract as and when required
Working Pattern: Monday – Friday, 6 hours per day over the lunchtime period, term time only
Skills and Experience
- Good secondary education. Either achieved craft qualifications or willing to study for them
- Numerate and able to communicate in written and spoken English
- Has the potential to plan kitchen activities and organise the work of others
- Demonstrates flair and innovation. Manual dexterity. Good instructor
- Potential to undertake menu planning and costing
- Committed to achieving good standards of food hygiene
- Relates well to staff and customers to accept more responsibility
- Keen to learn from more experienced professionals
